Archdiocese of M o n t r e a l
Dear Priests, Deacons, Those in Consecrated Life and Lay Faithful,
The persecution of Christians in the world is quite real. We are seeing numbers as high as 200 million persecuted Christians in our time. There is undoubtedly a call for us to pray for religious freedom, justice and peace. We also have a responsibility to be informed and to find ways of providing support.
Since 1947, the association Aid to the Church In Need (ACN) (www.acn-aed-ca.org) has been involved in this tripled work of prayer, information and support, and helps local churches where Christians are persecuted. The oppression manifests itself through a combination of humiliation, injustice, exclusion from society, work and politics, and where serious persecutions can even lead to murder.
Persecuted Christians may be forgotten if we do not make the effort to remember them in prayer, by staying informed and by giving support. For this reason, in collaboration with Aid to the Church In Need, I invite all of you to a MASS FOR PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS on Friday, November 7, 7:30pm at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral.
Information flyers will be available for parishes as of November 5, at the Advent Liturgical Session. You may also order flyers directly from the Aid to the Church In Need at 514-932-0552.
I invite you in the spirit of hope that our prayer, in union with Christ Jesus, will unite us all in moving forward in solidarity.
And may Mother Mary, who stayed at the foot of the Cross, pray for all those who are persecuted and that God, in His infinite Mercy, fill you with His Peace.
